In Lafayette, the most controversial thing going on right now is… the Library’s summer reading program. No. Seriously.

Gone are the days when a public body is expected to simply do its job. Today, if they aren’t taking an active role in promoting a political agenda, a half-dozen angry activists (through dozens of fake social media accounts) froth up “resistance” to the agency’s core mission. I explain how Citizens for a New Louisiana has been caused of being “overly political” for diligently working to remove politics from local government.

Not only does their narrative simply not make sense, the whole thing is a complete fabrication. When Library Director Danny Gillane faces vitriol for simply suggesting, “hey, let’s focus on reading,” the community has a really, really big problem.

Don’t just sit there, do something!

If you hadn’t learned this information here, would you have ever found out about it? Citizens for a New Louisiana is the only organization in Louisiana dedicated to reforming local government. With the help of numerous volunteers we are making some progress. However, there’s much more work we could be doing. Making a difference will take a little more than reading an article every now and then. Your community doesn’t need another spectator. They need someone willing to step onto the field and become a real part of the solution.
